FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC

hand

We welcome all age groups from babies to seniors. Our chiropractic services offer various techniques to suit your personal chiropractic needs.

Every patient in the clinic has their own personal treatment plan to best suit their individual health and lifestyle.

Your spinal column is made up of 24 individual spinal bones called vertebra (pl. vertebrae). The vertebrae are all connected by ligaments and disks. Your spinal column not only provides support for the body, it also forms a hard protective shell for your nervous system.

Nerves exit the skull and travel down as the spinal cord which is, of course, enclosed within the vertebrae. Individual nerves branch off from the spinal column and run between the vertebrae, and from there travel to almost all of the structures of your body. These nerves are the electrical system of your body, and send messages to and from the brain regarding muscles, pain, sensations, etc.

If there is a disruption in the nerve messages, you will often feel pain, or strange sensations (remember that tingling when your arm or leg “falls asleep”?). If there is a major disruption of the nerve, numbness or muscle weakness are often the result.

Family Chiropractic

Your chiropractor is trained to detect if any of the spinal bones and joints is not moving correctly (you may have heard the termsubluxation, defined as a condition when two vertebrae are not working correctly). This incorrect movement can result in the disruption of nerve messages mentioned above.

Your chiropractor will “adjust” your vetebrae by delivering a small but powerful force through the vertebrae and the joints between them. This helps to restore normal motion, and decrease the pressure on the nerves. This in turn can reduce any pain you might be feeling, and increase overall functioning of the body.

When the adjustment is performed, don’t be surprised to hear a “cracking” sound coming from your spinal joints. This is expected, and is completely harmless. This occurs due to a process called cavitation, which causes a release of nitrogen gas from between the joints.

the-spine

You may associate chiropractors with treatment of lower back problems. While this is a common ailment, chiropractors are able to (and do) treat the whole spine, as well as any joints of the arms and legs. Here are some of the more common ailments that patients present with:

low back pain
neck pain
headaches
ankle and knee sprains/strains
carpal tunnel syndrome
repetitive strain injury
tennis elbow
arthritic conditions

Motor Vehicle Accidents
Workplace Injuries
Pregnancy and post-natal care

Many different kinds of problems can be treated, but since everyone is an individual, the number of treatments required will vary, and individual response to the treatment will change from person to person.

ANIMAL CHIROPRACTIC

Pet owners may sometimes not realize that their four-legged family members are under many stresses which can affect their musculoskeletal health. Here is a list of some of the common causes of the discomfort which our pet patients have experienced (and we have been able to help with):

stiffness, trouble getting up and down, slow walks
arthritis changes
injuries/trauma/car accidents/falls
strains from agility training/showing/sports etc…
crating/confinement for long periods
post-surgical discomfort
breeding bitches, puppies

Animal Chiropractic

How can you tell when your pet might be experiencing some discomfort (which chiropractic may be able to relieve or diminish)? Obviously, they can’t come right out and tell you in so many words. They can tell you in other ways and observation of the following signs can indicate when there is some distress being experienced:

unexplained limping
problem up/down stairs
unable to jump on/off furniture, in/out cars
squeal/yelp when touched on back, body parts
refusal to play
does not walk as far as usual
difficult grooming, snarly to touch
change in performance, movement, attitude to work

As the owner, we need you to observe the behaviours and mood of your pet, and communicate your concerns and observations with us. Coupled with your input, an effective diagnosis will enable us to develop a course of treatment which is tailored to the specific needs of your pet.

Age is not a disease so we treat everything from puppies to older dogs. Quality of life is important to us.

How do you tell when your animal might be experiencing some discomfort (which chiropractic may be able to relieve or diminish)? Obviously, they can’t come right out and tell you in so many words, but they are able to tell you in other ways.

Observation of the following signs can tell you when your horse is experiencing some discomfort:

being “off”
bucking on mounting/working under saddle
change in performance, movement, attitude to work
pain or dropping on spinal pressure
refusing jumps
unexplained limping

As the owner, we need you to observe the behaviours and mood of your horse, and communicate your concerns and observations to us. Many problems may be helped with chiropractic adjustments, and the course of treatment will be tailored to the specific needs of your horse or other animal.

As you might imagine, exercising with your horse, especially if the activity is strenuous or of long duration, can put some significant stress on your horse’s spine, as well as other parts of his/her anatomy. Other day to day activities or conditions might also cause your animal to experience some discomfort.

Some of the more common causes for discomfort for your horse are:

arthritis, wear and tear
cold backed
injuries
jumping
long hours in stall
poor fitting tack
roping, reining, etc.
stiffness
trailering
use of side or draw reins

Theralase Cool Laser Therapy

What is cool LASER? – Laser therapy provides a source of light energy to the injured site. When this energy, in form of photons, is provided to the injury site; the photons help to enhance healing. The stimulating effect of laser therapy provides anti-inflammatory, pain reduction an anti-swelling effects on the tissues. Cold LASER is modern medical technology that heals injuries safely and effectively at a cellular level.

What can it do for me?
Reduces inflammation of the tissues in the injured area (eg. a sprained ankle is swollen and painful; laser helps reduce the swelling and pain).
Reduce pain by changing the way the body feels pain at the injury site.
It helps balance the pain response and chemistry of the cells around the injury site.
Speeds up cellular healing.

What can be treated with LASER?
sprained ankles/wrists/fingers/toes/knees/hips/TMJ etc.
disk herniations, arthritis in the joints, Carpal Tunnel syndrome, muscle strains, muscle tension, trigger points, joint swellings.
after surgery; can be used on the wound and around the injury.
many more!

The cold LASER is designed, through our medical grade unit, to penetrate the area up to 4 inches if necessary for deep healing.

Cold LASER is a painless therapy that uses the body’s own natural healing system to help to reduce pain, increase joint mobility, increase tissue integrity and promote cell regeneration.

Cold LASER allows us to treat conditions with needle-less acupuncture for those that want the similar effects of acupuncture but without the use of needles.

Treatment: times and number of visits vary depending on how long you have had the condition and injury type.
